Hi! I am the new editor for the Families Vale of York magazine and I am really excited to be taking over from the previous editor and continuing to develop the ever-popular Families brand. Families print is a long-standing business that has run for over 25 years; there are 36, soon to be 37, magazines throughout the UK. All of the mags are produced 6 times a year and in the Vale of York we distribute to over 350 points with a readership of 40,000. We are unique in the fact that we distribute to such a wide area covering Harrogate, Knaresborough, Tadcaster, Wetherby, Selby, Goole, York and all of the surrounding areas in between!
Before I became the editor of Families magazine, Vale of York I did a completely different job, working as a Deputy Head Teacher in a large secondary school. What a transition it has been! I am only 3 weeks in and I am not looking back. I made probably one of the hardest decisions of my life to give up my well-paid job, which I had slaved to achieve in the 15 years that I had been in the teaching profession, to enable me to give back in a different way. I hope to be someone who not only edits and produces the magazine, but someone who provides support and advice to parents up and down the Vale of York, helping them to get through the hardest job in the world: being a Mum or a Dad and raising children to be the best that they can be! The magazine includes articles on topical issues: nutrition; education; health and wellbeing and much more! It reviews local attractions and provides a fantastically comprehensive ‘What’s on’ guide, specific to the time of year for that issue: Easter; May ½ term; Summer; October ½ term and Christmas.
I have three children of my own, my step daughter is 16 (how did that happen?!) and two sons, Ethan who has just turned 7 and Theo who is 3. It’s a privilege and an honour to be in their lives and I know I do not always get it right; I am only human after all (coincidently my son’s favourite song of the moment by Rag and Bone man), but I have lots of fun trying!
The first few weeks in the job have been great! I have met some lovely people who run local businesses for our families, I have forged links with a nutritionist who will be writing articles and recipes for the mag and a counsellor who is pulling together an advice article for parents to go in our March/April issue on how as parents, we can help our children to be confident and to have good self-esteem.
Don’t miss out! Issue 81 will be out on 1st March. If you do not receive a copy and wish to; let me know via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or alternatively, locate it online at: https://www.familiesonline.co.uk/…/families-vale-of-york-ma…
